Monthly Cost Calculator for Publishers
With Type.World essentially being a cloud technology provider, it will bill its customers (font publishers) by transactions on the system as outlined below.
Why billing? Please make sure to read the Free vs. Paid and Costs sections in the Developer Information page to understand what you are being billed for and why, given that Type.World is an open source project. The gist of it: Basic usage of the system is free, and only certain professional convenience features cost us real money and are therefore being billed to publishers as well as end users.
6 Months Free Trial Period: You’ll get ample time for developing your Type.World integration with a 6-month free trial period. Make sure to fit the initial onboarding of all your existing customer’s user accounts into this period to avoid higher roll-out costs.
VAT: Customers in the European Union need to add VAT which is either 19% German VAT or provide their VAT ID number and then pay VAT to their own respective country of residence. Customers outside of the European Union are exempted from paying VAT on these prices.
Price Calculation: Each metric’s prices are calculated using a graduated price scale. Each metric’s price is a summation of each tier bracket’s quota until the final amount has been reached.
Tip: Your input gets appended to the browser URL. You can copy the URL to send a filled sample calculation to your colleagues.
Privacy Notice: The values you put into the calculation below are anonymous and don’t get stored on server.
Definition:
Number of subscriptions that have been either
- newly added to the Type.World system (first appearance)
- or updated with added fonts
Description:
For a commercial type publisher, a newly added subscription means either a sale to a completely new customer or the first access of a Type.World subscription by an existing customer. Therefore, this number will be a bit higher in the beginning of each publisher’s Type.World rollout. In the long run, first accesses of existing customers will vanish entirely and only new sales will count.
Added fonts normally means a new sale for an existing customer where new fonts are being added to an existing subscription.
Example Calculation:
For calculation of continuous costs, enter your average monthly number of sales.
Attention: You will have additional initial roll-out costs, because you need to create one subscription for each of your previously existing customers, which to Type.World appears technically the same as a new subscription for a new customer of yours. Therefore, make sure you initiate this initial onboarding of your previously existing customers within the 6 month free trial period.

1001 to infinity | 0.10000€ |
Definition:
Number of subscription updates that show a new font version for at least one of the fonts
Description:
For a commercial publisher, this normally means no added revenue, as font updates are normally published free of additional charge to customers. But they do put strain on Type.World resources and therefore need to be billed.
Example Calculation:
For an estimated calculation of continuous costs, enter the number of font updates you publish per month as well as the average number of your customers who hold access to that font. In other words, if your customers hold access to about 10% of your library on average, enter 10% of your total customers multiplied by the amount of font updates per month.
The example calculation will be a multiplication of the two values.

Number of monthly active users
Description:
Active users are users that open their Type.World App at least once per month and who hold at least one subscription originating from your API Endpoint. Active users cause real costs mainly on the messaging server that holds one connection per active user to send out update notifications. The reason this billing metric exists is mostly because of Free Font Websites who show no measurable resource consumption other than a potentially very high number of active users.
Note: In reality, your number of active users will be lower than your total amout of customers, but we don’t know by how many, so put the total amount here for worst-case scenario.

Number of monthly user data access via Type.World Sign-In, using the Basic scope
Description:
If you offer Type.World Sign-In to the users of your app or website accessing only the Basic scope (name, email, user ID), these are the number of times you access the user data endpoint using the access token you have previously received from Type.World Sign-In.
Normally, this number should correlate strongly with your monthly font sales.
Tokens that contain both Basic and Extended scopes are counted as Extended only (see below). The billed metric is the maximum number of tokens used per month on the user data endpoint. Multiple queries per month for the same token are billed only once.
Example Calculation:
▲ Number of monthly user data access per token, Basic scope
